I broke off the tip of my old one trying to punch a hole in cured Magic Sculpt and am very glad to finally get the replacement.

To straighten the tube opening after cutting:
Insert the icepick into the opening, tap a few times and rotate and work it open. Smooth the irregularities on the outside edge of the tube with a metal file.
